The signs are only as thick as a piece of paper and glow from within their own phosphorescence giving the look of traditional gas neon tubes. Their high light output is bright enough to even glow in regular room lighting. The careful engineering of these signs produce no 'hot spots' which is characteristic of other types of lights. Vertical signs are designed to be used on the sides of buildings and are available in a left and right version. Horizontal signs are used for roof tops. Each kit comes with one 'EL' lamp, a complete ready-to-install power supply that runs on two 'AAA' batteries, not included, and detailed instructions.
